Jambalaya Diaries: Monday, December 17th

A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools. -Spanish proverb

I left "Towhees" on Bancroft, across the street from the University Art Museum, which is below College and above Bowditch.  It is paid for until 11 AM. I presume that Pat can drop Nancy off there before then;if not, let me know.  We will have to figure out getting me home, presuming we all agree that that is a worthy goal.

Elise is coming for dinner!  Pork tenderloin, pork loin roast, lamb, all are fine. No beef, chicken is passe....Rain rain rain...

The library is still locked up, but soon I will be back in my cell....I mean cubicle...Sherpa Davey

Hi Vinnie, Code Name Sherpa Davey!!

Naughty Nancy, (Team Leader) would like you to call her, at some point, on her cell to confirm rendezvous time and location for pickup after you finish work. She is trying to coordinate gathering Cora Lee, (Code Name Emily Post!), from the Elmwood Theatre at just after 5:10pm. She suggests you and I be at the Law School Plaza by 5:25pm unless you call her to let her know about getting off earlier, should that be something you wish to entertain, etc. Please destroy this message once you have digested it! Fondestos and Buona Fortuna with Your Mission should you choose to accept it! Cheers, M!

PS: See you at Spieker at 11:00am!

Okay, I will try to call Nancy but if nothing else happens, will be where I am supposed to be at 5:25, Law School Plaza, by the fountain.
Whoever shops should get something in the way of a vegetable. Brussels Sprouts? Cabbage? I think I have enough potatoes, but a few more white or red ones would be peachy.  If not canyonelike. Cactus

Hi Patrizzia and Amos!

Wonderful to meet you, Patricia. Trust you made it home safely. We are off into town, shortly. The Sisterhood to shop, initially, for tonight's fare, then Cora Lee to see Searching for Sugarman and Donna Florida to her Book Club. Cactus and I will swim and then afterwards, he to his cubicle and I to frequent the java spots and merchants of Telegraph and environs. More pitturas from last even's soirée later but now our chauffeur calls. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Pics: Rainbow in vineyards near Coffaro, wines we had last night!

Great work! Thanks for risking your sight on our behalf. we are looking forward to seeing the sights and spending time with you both.
talk soon,
Love
Corinne

Patrick James Dunn Nana watched a Christmas Heart on Sunday morning and I caught the last of it after returning from my ride and before taking a quick shower. When I emerged from the bathroom film was reaching its nail-biting climax. When it was over, Nana was weeping so Hallmark has certainly done its homework!

    Best wishes, Anne and Kurt

    Hi Anne and Kurt!

How lovely to hear from you! Glad all seems to be going well. For our part, we left Vancouver last Wednesday to stay overnight in Portland with close friends, Marilyn and Michael. Next day drove to Healdsburg for three nights of fun-filled, wine-soaked adventures. Last night in Berkeley with very good friends, Nancy and David. Tomorrow we will drive south to LA to spend Christmas with Ayn and Los Horridos, our grandsons, Pierre and Alexander, 23 and 22 respectively. Chloë, Clarisse and Dusty will fly down. We are actually house-sitting for Ayn's cousin, Rick, who has a gorgeous home in Simi Valley. He and his family will spend holidays in Bora Bora to celebrate his 60th.

A day or so after the 10th of January we are planning to continue driving south and east with a mind to seeing New Orleans, as one goal. I'd like to visit some bourbon distilleries in Tennessee and Kentucky but whether this transpires or not, remains to be decided. We will see friends, Randy and Ruth, formerly living in San Antonio, now in Dallas, en route to New Orleans.

Two weeks ago we had a visit from a close friend, Rhoda Benson, in town from Cape Breton, (We visited with her on the same trip we stayed with you!), to visit her eldest daughter, Dinao, who is taking an Art Therapy course here. I met Rhoda when I worked at the Curric Lab, (now the Education Library), at UBC and she was a Student Assistant, back in the late '70's! She came for dinner with her daughter, Dinao. Over the course of the evening Rhoda mentioned that she and Ron, her husband, would be spending three months in Saint Maarten/Saint Martin, beginning in January. Ron will be teaching there and they have a two-bedroom place provided. She invited us to visit! Now that the possibility of going to the Caribbean exists, we are trying to determine where best to fly from in the US. Probably Dallas. At any rate, the thought of seeing some of the places in The Deep South is starting to make us both shiver with anticipation.

Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year to you both! Fondestos and Cheers, Cora Lee, Chloë and Patrizzio!

Pics: David Coffaro Winery, Saturday and Sunday, this past weekend; last evening with Amos and Pat, next to Cora Lee, David and Nancy. Amos was a classmate of Cora Lee's at UBC's Library School, 1975-1977.

Leah wanted a tree instead of our usual "Xmas lamp".... So we went to aunt Leah's!

    Hello Christmas Tree People!

Wonderful that you bought a tree from Aunt Leah's! Thanks for supporting such a great charity. Leah should volunteer with us next year. With her name she'll sell thousands!!! However, I trust your Christmas Lamp has a few decorations, otherwise it'll feel somewhat left out. Inanimate objects have feeling too, as I'm constantly reminding Cora Lee when she calls me a blockhead, as in: "Oh Patrick, you're such a BLOCKHEAD!" I'm used to it by now so I just hang an empty malt bottle around my neck to make myself feel better!

Last Wednesday we stayed overnight in Portland with close friends, Marilyn and Michael. Next day drove to Healdsburg for three nights of fun-filled, wine-soaked adventures. Last two nights in Berkeley with very good friends, Nancy and David. Today we will drive south to LA.

Have attached a number of pics of tree-related shots. First are from Rebecca, Beckster, and Corey, Kid Chelene, (daughter-in-law and son of Flamin', Michele, and Sarge, Wayne, close friends who live in the building), of their first tree, again from Aunt Leah's. A few years ago both KC and Sarge volunteered with me at Aunt Leah's. Next shot is from Portland with grandchildren Amanda and Paul. Third set is from David Coffaro Winery. We have become quite good friends with owners, Pat, (far right in shot with Cora Lee and The Sisterhood!), and David, (Open House featured an Ugly Sweater Contest!), over the years. Saturday we stopped by to say hello and taste and next day we attended the December Open House. Last set is from Berkeley. Cora Lee with Amos and Pat, David and Nancy. CL and Amos were classmates at Library School, (I was a year ahead, so knew him as well.), and Pat knew David from working at various UC Berkeley Libraries. Both Amos and Pat are retired, David will do so this coming July 1st.

Hope everyone enjoys your tree. Once again, Happy Christmas, (belated Happy Hanukkah), and a Healthy New Year! Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

After swimming at Spieker, Cactus took me on a tour of Bancroft!
