Nadienka's new pad!
  • Patrick James Dunn Keys to your new pad, Dear Host Daughter?

    Hi Rose and Joe!

Trust you are well and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with your family. We certainly did!
Last night we had a delicious rib dinner, (Clarisse and Cora Lee), with Los Horridos, our grandsons, Pierre and Alexander, and their mother, Ayn, here at Il Palazzio, (pool and hot tub before dinner!), de Simi Valley, (63.3K on the surrounding hills this afternoon, in the gorgeous sunshine!), and then a family card game. Lots of fun!

Trying to catch up on messages before breakfast. Much to tell but no time to record adventures! Think we are off to the Ronald Regan Library this morning, literally just down the road from us.

This is truly a wonderful place to ride. If LA was flat, Simi is hill country. Not really any crushing ascents, that I've found anyway, but enough grade to make life interesting. Bit like Penticton/Naramata! Best wishes to you both. Healthy New Year to you and family.  Cheers, Patrizzio!

Wisdom from an Elderly Jewish man!

"Pardon me, sir, I'm Rebecca Smith from CNN. What's your name?

    "Morris Feinberg," he replied.

"Sir, how long have you been coming to the Western Wall and praying?"

    "For about 60 years."

"60 years! That's amazing! What do you pray for?"

"I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and the Muslims."

"I pray for all the wars and all the hatred to stop."

"I pray for all our children to grow up safely as responsible adults and to

    love their fellow man."

"I pray that politicians tell us the truth and put the interests of the

people ahead of their own interests."

The Journalist then asked: "How do you feel after doing this for 60 years?"

"Like I'm talking to a fucking wall."

    Waffle!

    Hi Sarge!

Trust you are well and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas. Gather Whistler was terrific. We had wonderful time ourselves. Best wishes to Famiglia Sutherland for a Healthy New Year.  Cheers, Patrizzio!

    Hi Patrick,

Tricia and I will be there for a couple of hours on New Year's Day.  Thank you for inviting us to stay over but we can't unfortunately.  I emailed Corinne the details.  Looking forward to seeing you againd and meeting some of your family and friends.  The pictures are lovely.  What nice looking relatives and friends you have.  Looks like more good food and wine was enjoyed by all!

    See you in 2013!Trice

We had a wonderful Christmas.  Miranda arrived home Saturday with her boyfriend Eduardo following 2 hours later.  We are much nicer to our children when it comes to booking their travels.  We cancelled our Southwest direct flight booking from Houston to Dallas, which would have taken perhaps 45 minutes in the air, but would have taken 3-4 hours of hustling and sweating to drive to the airport, stripping in front of the security, and praying on tarmac, even though Southwest is our premier airline of choice.  Instead, we put her on Megabus, costing $17 one way (and $1 on return)!  This is after her last trip home driving her cute little Mercedes SUV (well, a handsome hand-me-down from us, very old, but with good “bones”) from Houston to Dallas, but used up her last drop of gasoline on the highway, about 90 minutes outside Dallas.  So we say no more driving, and Megabus answered our prayer!

Eduardo spent two days (well, really one full day, one night) with us.  We have gotten to know him reasonably well, and I have already started thinking about getting him a nicer Christmas gift after presenting him with a hastily wrapped Bailey gift set and him presenting us with 4 beautiful Pottery Barn wine glasses!  (He scored there, though if he had really known us, we would never run short of wine glasses, would we?  But that might be a message to me -- time to retire those 21 year old antique free glasses!)  This is also after Miranda asked us to take their relationship a little more seriously!  She in fact is on a flight with Eduardo now to Puerto Rico for the New Year celebration and visiting his two sets of grandparents and army of cousins!  Trust that we will give you earful of Eduardo when you get here …

Christmas was saved, after we found out that Adrian scored 18 out of 60 in his Electricity & Magnetism (whatever that means) final exam two nights before, and learned on Christmas eve that he actually passed the course!  The day was spent debating how much his professor could improve on communications and how promising (now) Adrian’s future looks …  Hallelujah – we would have been tempted to take back all the presents as they will help pay for the re-take of the course!

Big fat snowflakes fell as we were opening presents – so we took it as a good omen, first Christmas in our new (and temporary, I hope) home.   Visited three museums in Fort Worth yesterday – the Kimbell, Modern and Amon Carter, and he not so politely declined when we wanted to stop in Dallas Museum of Art as we approached home.  Glad to say that he actually recognized a couple of paintings from his “City and the Arts” course from a legend Arnold Weinstein (also the grandfather of a former girlfriend), and discussed the architecture with us.  Only if he can pass his engineering courses without making us sweat …

Today is my first day back to work before taking off again for New Year’s.  The three of us plus Cassie and Max set out for San Antonio this afternoon.  So will sign off.  Will email again before you leave the Tinsel Town.  Hugs and kisses to everyone!

    Ruth
