Jambalaya Diaries: Thursday, February 7th, Last Day in Sint Maarten!

Nothing is so firmly believed as what is least known. -Michel de Montaigne, essayist (1533-1592)

Rain Man, Douglas Model & Ski at Transat, Grand Case!

Hi parents,

I am assuming your back in Dallas and soon back to lovely grey Vancouver.
The interview went well, but you never know?? It will be three days a week ( monday, tuesday, wednesday ) and would possibly start the 18th of the month or around there. There were 30 people who applied and they only interviewed 15 or so but I was told they would be doing second interviews at either the end of this week or next week and I have not heard anything yet?!? I think this would be a great thing for me but you just never know what will happen so will let you know when I hear something.

I called both hydro and gas and set up my accounts and they did not say I was on the hook for Ben.....se maybe he got away with it!!!!

Mom, Karen (of Karen and Bill) was having dinner with G&G and they brought over a bunch of woman's/kids stuff. Does WISH take kids stuff???

Dad, Andrew called and he fell off a curb and broke his left arm/shoulder something like that, of course he is in rough shape and misses you something awful!!!

ok love you both, night, call this weekend if you have a chance. xx Chloe

Hi Ski and Rain Man!

Did you see us off at Sunset Bar & Grill? Thought of yo
u as we blasted down the runway!!! Thanks again for such a wonderful, wonderful time with you in Paradise! Sat next to a pharmacist from St Martin, and his young daughter, en route to Orlando. Very friendly chap. His broken Englush far, far better than my fractured french, I'm rather embarrassed to admit! Has lived in St Martin for over twenty years. Wants to ski at Whistler. Who knows?

Arrived a few minutes early into Miami but lines were so long getting through Customs, etc., that we missed our connecting flight to Dallas. Staying overnight at the Fairfield, only about ten minutes from the airport. We need to be back there by 4:30am so will be a short sleep. Plane leaves at 6:25am to arrive in Dallas at 8:45am, local time. Fondestos and Cheers, Cora Lee and Patrizzio!

Pics: Afternoon we left, Ronaldo modelling shirts I left behind; Ski workig on her blog; Tremonte, Rain Man's sister, with Cora Lee and Ski, before we left dorm at AUC; Rooster from Grand Case; Sunset at Maho Beach; restaurant around the corner from our hotel in Miami. Unfortunately it was closed by the time we had checked in.

That sucks about your flight D, hope airline is paying for room. Well enjoy your brief stay in Miami. Sleep tight. xx

Cantankerous: Difficult to deal with: ill-tempered, quarrelsome.

ETYMOLOGY:
Of uncertain origin. Perhaps from Middle English contak (contention). Earliest documented use: 1736.

USAGE:
"Justin Wolff makes clear that Thomas Hart Benton had a difficult if not volcanic personality. Among the adjectives he uses to describe him are surly, belligerent, arrogant, pugnacious, combative, gruff, inflexible, cantankerous, argumentative, churlish, cruel, and blunt."
Terry Hartle; Thomas Hart Benton: A Life; The Christian Science Monitor (Boston); May 21, 2012.

Hi fellow shareholders

Over a year has now passed since we purchased Cask # 188 in December 2011 and everything continues to progress as planned. Good things come to those who wait!

The distiller, Patrick Evans just sent me another three samples from their distillery. They have been continuing to experiment with different maturation processes and these three samples were all triple distilled:

  • Sample # 1 New Make Spirit  70%
  • Sample # 2 French Oak 63%
  • Sample # 3 American Oak 63%
Similar to the last samples tasted I will host a 2nd tasting panel on Wednesday February 13, 2013 at 5:30 PM in the Library Room of Lakeshore Tower # 2 located at the entrance on 57 Winnipeg Street. I will arrange to have some tasting glasses, notepaper and water on hand. We'll use the WSET approach to tasting the samples for aroma & Flavour, Appearance, Nose and Palate.

We'll collect your observations and pass them along to Patrick at the distillery. This type of feedback will help influence how they develop and mature their products including our cask.

Please reply to this email as soon as possible indicating if you plan to attend or not. Note if a 5% cask share is held by more than one person please designate just one representative to attend. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Thanks, I'll be there.  Patrick will have to take my word for the tasting, as he is currently basking in the sun in the Caribbean. Best regards, Peter

    Greetings from Sint Maarten!
Trust you are well. Wonderful, wonderful time here in the Caribbean. We won't be back in Vancouver until February 17th. Flying back to Dallas this afternoon and then driving home, via LA/Sonoma/Napa! Cheers, Patrizzio!
  • Jeff Conatser
sounds wonderful... you should drop into my uncles winery in Napa and bring home a case for us.
