Jambalaya Diaries: Saturday, January 26th

Truluck's' Chocolate Martini!

Up at just before 6:00am to creep out of the bedroom, Little Toot puff, puff, puffing away on her pillow. I had gone to bed last night before The Sisterhood, still poundin' and gabbin' in the living room, around 11:00pm. When I woke up at 1:00am or so, CoraLeeta was asleep, her book on her ample bosom, glasses on the tip of her nose and bedside light still on! I managed to get her put aside all her reading accoutrements and turn out the light. However, when I woke at 3:00am, (She was crowding me and the additional body heat caused my internal thermostat to sound a warning bell!), I found her clutching her glasses. When I tried to pry them from her fingers she snatched her hand away, mumbling groggily, still half-asleep, "I need them! Don't touch them!" With repeated effort I managed to extract them from her grip as I was worried she might crush them if she rolled over on them, at some point.

Once up I brewed some java industriale and then threw together a mélange of overlefts: diced oniones, fried in chicken fat and gelatin saved from one of Ruth's earlier meals. Once these were nicely browned I added slice tomatoes, (Cora lee had bought two packages, on sale, and they were very ripe so I had set aside those which could not be used in saladin, knowing they would come in handy!), and some rice from Wednesday's dinner, to sop up all the remaining liquid. About 6:45am poor Ruth appeared, accompanied by Mad Max and Cassie, tails awagging, puzzled as to what was going on, awakened by the delicious smells wafting into her bedroom.

Still somewhat dazed she went on a fridge management spree, cleaning out a number of small dishes growing penicillin mould lest I wake her over the next few mornings we are here. Too, too bad as I had my eye on them and my heart set to enjoy their aged nuances! Was not to be as the garburator claimed their furry souls. Somewhat dismayed I poured myself another cup of spoon stand-up while Ruth went to the Lobby for the morning papers, pooches along for protection, planning to lick any would-be muggers to death.

Cora Lee surfaced around 8:30am and when Ruth mentioned that she would go shopping for some of the things she needed for dinner, before she was to collect Randy at Dallas Love Field, (He was flying up from San Antonio for the weekend.), she had a quick shower and they left about 9:15am to run necessary errands. I worked on the Jambalaya Diaries until 10:30am and then had a quick shower. Was just changed when gang returned and we visited for a bit before we walked over to Greenz, a salad place but a few minutes away. Randy and I decided upon the Chipotle Chicken: Fresh greens, shredded chicken, tomatoes, jack cheese and toasted pecans. Mixed with zesty chipotle cream dressing and topped with crispy tortilla strips; Coriandre chose the Grilled Southwestern Shrimp: Delectable grilled shrimp, black bean and corn salsa, avocado and sweet potato straws, all atop our spinach and romaine mix.  Served with cilantro-lime vinaigrette; Ruthless decided upon The Mediterranean: Chopped romaine, tomato, red onion, cucumber, olives and crumbled feta mixed with creamy tzatziki dressing. Garnished with a homemade pita crisp. She added grilled shrimp. With two Groupons it only cost about $3!

Back to the parking garage, (Stopping en route to chat with two cyclisti, two young men, one from Cologne, (He had been accepted into Engineering at UBC but chose UCB), and the other from Stockholm, both working for a Swedish mining and construction company. I wanted to go for a ride with them but The Sisterhood would have none of it! We then climbed into Ruth's car and Randy drove us downtown to give us a bit of a feel for the city. We parked close to the Texas School Book Depository, now The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, the site of the 1963 Kennedy assassination. After taking a look at the Grassy Knoll and the two X's which mark the location on Elm Street where the bullets struck Kennedy and Connally, we went inside to buy tickets for the museum. Line-up was inordinately long so we decided to come back after we return from St Martin as a week day is supposed to be quieter. Found some fridge magnets and postcards, the latter roughly chronicling, chronologically, the sequence of events leading up to the assassination.

Back to the car and then a wonderful ride through the neighbourhoods where I'd been cycling, this time with me as tour guide. Neither Ruth nor Randy had been on many of the streets so it was new to them as well as to Cora Lee. Home by 4:00pm and we opened a Groth, Oakville, 2003 Cabbage, 14.3%, still quite pleasingly tannic in spite of its age, and a Zichichi, Healdsburg, 2008 Cab, (Napa Valley fruit), 14.1%, more fruit forward but to be expected given that it was five years younger.

Just after 7:00pm Deborah and Robert Carington, friends from San Antonio, in Dallas for business, (Robert is a consultant in oil/gas ventures), and pleasure, (to see the Dallas Mavericks, (107), vs San Antonio Spurs, 113), game on Friday night)

Hello Ski and The Great Ronaldo!

Trust you are both well. Thanks for the confimazzione on pick-up! Delighted to bring java. Do you want beans or ground coffee? As well, what is the situation for computer connectivity? WiFi or Ether-Net? Not a big deal but let me know so I can bring proper peripherals, etc. Have compressed some of the Krewe Du Vieux Mardi Gras first parade snapolas.

Very Lazybones People this morgen as we were not up until after 8:00am. Ruth had already left for work when we stumbled out of the bedroom. CoraLeeta released Cassie and Mad Max from their "pen" in Ruth's bathroom and they promptly flaked out on the living room floor, dreaming doggy dreams, side-by-each!

Planned to attempt to break the 100 K mark today with a ride to Turtle Creek and beyond! Heavy mist which was enshrouding downtown Dallas slowly dissipated as morning wore on. I'll head out into the foggy streets at some point, taking a light in case it doesn't lift!

In the end, I left apartmento just after 12:00pm and managed 101.3 K over 5:24:48 with AVG 18.7 KPH, MAX 36.6 KPH along Turtle Creek and environs. Back home to find The Babes sipping a Decoy, 2010, Sonoma County, Chardonnay, 13.3%, from Duckhorn, the "everyday wine for the well-informed" before we trundled off to Truluck's Seafood Steak and Crab House for Happy Hour, a few blocks along McKinney. Started with martinis: Red Door, Fresh raspberries, Sobieski Vodka and St-Germain, for the Babes, Pomegranate, Charbay Pomegranate Vodka, for me; followed by a Tiramisu, Vincent Van Gogh Double Espresso, Vodka and Nocello Walnut Liquor and Chocolate for Coriandre, Ruthless respectively. I opted for the Lemon Drop, Stoli Citros Vodka and Tuaca. Well lubricated, Corinne ordered three appetizers: Salt and Pepper Calamari, Hot ‘n’ Crunchy Shrimp and Crispy Oysters and Peppers, Gulf fried oysters and tempura shishito peppers served with ginger aioli. Then another round of martinis: more dessert Tiramissou for The Sisterhood and a Blueberry, Stoli Bluberi Vodka, for me. Everything was divino and we ended up chatting with Nick Phillips, the Manager. Very handsome, friendly young man, off to New Orleans for the Jazz Festival in May. We suggested Commander's Palace and Cochon, a visit to the Lower 9th, and the various museums we'd enjoyed so much. Naughty Ruthless treated us, in spite of our protestations to the contrary, and we stumbled home.

Opened a Coffaro, 2010 Barbera, 15.6% which went exceedingly well with a bar of Hershey's  and we chatted about all and sundry while I put together pics. Thanks again for chauffeur service and Arrival tips. Let me know about java and computer stuff and we'll plan accoringly. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!

PS: Plan to bring along a number of bottles of wine, unless you insist otherwise. I presume vino is not as readily available as rum!

Hi We have Wifi so you don't have to worry.  There is lots of wine here, so I wouldn't bother bringing any unless have favorite brands.  Ground coffee for a regular filter coffee maker.
Thanks See you Monday. Rhoda
