There is something beautiful about all scars of whatever nature. A scar means the hurt is over, the wound is closed and healed, done with. -Harry Crews, novelist and playwright (b. 1935)

Box Canyon Blues:
Left 269 FVC at 11:45am, yesterday, to make for BCR. Did it and it wasn't as difficult as I had thought it was going to be. As far as Plummer and one block north on Baden and then back. Took my time and managed return up BCR without having to stand. Sun not so hot so ascent was almost enjoyable. Then over SSP to Topanga Canyon Blvd and then back to Iverson. Once I was back at 118 Entrance, I knew I was laughing. Sailed down ELAR to Sycamore and then Fitzgerald to First.  Few dipsy doodles on Arcane to finally cross First and then last long climb up LCR to WR and then I was back on LPD and making for home with 101.7K over 5:16:02, 19.3K KPH, MAX 55.3 KPH

Hello Patrick:
My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your mom. I saw Mike last night at the MAC for the first time since he was in the hospital (he's still in recovery mode, as you know) and he shared the news.
Please know that Jackie and I are thinking about you. You, and we, are very lucky to have amazing parents who lived really full lives. - The Chuckster

Hello Chuckerini!

Sorry that I have not replied sooner. Life on the road is very busy! Thank you for your words of condolence and kind remarks. Much appreciated.
Fondestos to you and Jacquie from CoraLeeta. Cheers, Il Conduttore!
Senior Sex
The husband leans over and asks his wife, "Do you remember the first time we had sex together over fifty years ago? We went behind the village tavern where you leaned against the back fence and I made love to you."

Yes, she says, "I remember it well."

OK, he says, "How about taking a stroll around there again and we can do it for old time's sake?"

"Oh Jim, you old devil, that sounds like a crazy, but good idea!"

A police officer sitting in the next booth heard their conversation and, having a chuckle to himself, he thinks to himself, I've got to see these two old-timers having sex against a fence. I'll just keep an eye on them so there's no trouble. So he follows them.

The elderly couple walks haltingly along, leaning on each other for support aided by walking sticks. Finally, they get to the back of the tavern and make their way to the fence The old lady lifts her skirt and the old man drops his trousers. As she leans against the fence, the old man moves in.. Then suddenly they erupt into the most furious sex that the policeman has ever seen. This goes on for about ten minutes while both are making loud noises and moaning and screaming. Finally, they both collapse, panting on the ground.
The policeman is amazed. He thinks he has learned something about life and old age that he didn't know.

After about half an hour of lying on the ground recovering, the old couple struggle to their feet and put their clothes back on. The policeman, is still watching and thinks to himself, this is truly amazing, I've got to ask them what their secret is.

So, as the couple passes, he says to them, "Excuse me, but that was something else. You must've had a fantastic sex life together. Is there some sort of secret to this?"

Shaking, the old man is barely able to reply,

"Fifty years ago that wasn't an electric fence."

Most people think that shadows follow, precede, or surround beings or objects. The truth is that they also surround words, ideas, desires, deeds, impulses and memories. -Elie Wiesel, writer, Nobel laureate (b. 1928)
Things are great. Everyone is home except Marvin and Nicole which get here on Sunday. Sounds like you are having fun and wish we were there.

David KesslerAfter a great midday swim with friends and devouring my sandwich, watching vast white cumulus clouds puffed up behind the Golden Gate bridge, so clear you can reach out and touch it, blazing blue Western sky a vast dome above me, as I saunter back to Bancroft for the afternoon's work, how fortunate I feel to be alive on this beautiful little planet...

Hi Patrick. Thanks for your message and a belated Happy New Year to you all. Sounds like your trip is going admirably and glad to see you are keeping the wheels spinning down there! Glad that Chloe managed to get down there as well. Must have been a great get together. The weather was obviously much much nicer than the muck in Vancouver and over here. I have never seen so much rain! We had a fair bit of flooding in the Westcountry over the holiday season. Even washed out part of the main train line from London so many people didn't make it down here for Christmas.

Marnie, Ant and our little grandson were here for Christmas along with Whistler the dog. Had a great time but it is always a logistical nightmare keeping dog and cat apart. The cat hates the dog and Whistler chases anything that moves! Consequently, we had to keep the cat in our bedroom for most of the day (he tends to sleep most of the time anyway). Then we let the cat out at night, which is when he tends to come to life, and the dog sleeps with Marnie and Ant. Every morning I had to take the dog to the beach which he loves, whether raining or not! The beach closest to us has a three mile stretch of sand so it was great exercise for both him and yours truly! Gayle particularly enjoyed having Tristan here and there was lots of spoiling and cuddles!

Because Christmas was so hectic with visits from family etc Gayle and I decided to have a quiet New Year's Eve. So we had some champagne and I cooked a nice Thai meal for the two of us. Panaeng prawn curry, sesame chicken, fragrant Thai rice and a mixture of stir fried vegetables. We had a very nice Rioja to go with the meal although Thai beer would probably have married with the food better than wine.

You have probably heard the fiasco with Mark and Krissy? They found out that the previous owner, Todd, had not paid his rent since last April. Consequently, the landlord is taking him to court and have advised Krissy and Mark that they are not legally entitled to occupy the premises since Todd had not seeked their permission to sublet the premises. They, therefore, are threatening to seise the restaurant assets! Krissy and Mark have now sought legal advice (bit late in the day) and have pulled out all the equipment that they previously installed and put it back in the original kitchen where they serviced Pig on the Street.

There are other issues involved but I won't bore you with those. Needless to say they are disappointed but, as they say, they are down but not out! Don't know where this leaves my investment but these kids are going to make me destitute!!
I went for a long ride today. Left at 9.30 in the rain and returned at 2.30 also in the rain. I forgot to turn on my computer so don't know exactly how far I went but my legs told me it was a long way. Went from home into Truro, stopped for a quick coffee and croissant since I hadn't had any breakfast, then went back on myself to Chacewater, which is a small village not far from us, then did a detour to Trelissick Estate, then a decent into two little villages along the Devoran river. I then hit the Bissoe bike trail, which was originally a tram track in the 1700/1800's to bring the tin ore to Devoran docks for loading onto ships. The river has silted up over the years and can now only accommodate pleasure craft. The trail is a little rough and muddy in places but since my bike is a cross it can handle a bit of rough terrain.

We went to the cinema on Monday with Marks parents to see Quartet. Very funny. If it comes your way it's well worth seeing. All about retired musicians in a nursing home! We then went for an Italian afterwards. Good evening. We are off to see Les Miserables on Saturday with the Cothey's and one of my sisters and brother in law. We will hit a restaurant first since it is a late show. Well Gayle has just called me for dinner so I had better sign off. Have attached a few photos I took over the holidays. All good wishes Derek

An old Woman was asked, "At your ripe age, what would you prefer to get
    Parkinson's or Alzheimer's?"

The wise one answered, "Definitely Parkinson's - Better to spill half my wine
than to forget where I keep the bottle."

"Charles Edward Brown-Sequard was a Mauritian-born, French-trained doctor in the mid- to late-1800s. While best known for syndrome in which a spinal cord injury results in paralysis and motor function, Brown-Sequard was interested in something else: monkey testicles. In 1889, Brown-Sequard published a paper titled “The Effects Produced on Man by the Subcutaneous Injections of a Liquid Obtained from the Testicles of Animals,” investigating whether the hormones could help humans become stronger and more virile. Specifically, Brown-Sequard believed (and reported) that, eating an extract from monkey testicles could result in improved performance in the bedroom.

Almost immediately, people were using the soon-called “Brown-Sequard elixir” as a muscle-building supplement. An August 23, 1889 article in the New York Times titled “Doctors Who Disagree” discussed how the elixir was dividing the medical community; some believed that the testicle extract was helping reverse the aging process while others refused to buy into what they saw as nothing more than snake oil. (The latter doctors were right; the elixir was, at best, a placebo.)"
