De-Nesting Diaries: Thursday, May 16th

"Do you ever read any of the books you burn?" "That's against the law!" "Oh. Of course." -Ray Bradbury, science-fiction writer (1920-2012)

Thou shalt not impute equivocation upon those foul forecast riders and hooch hounds.Nor shall thine gambling vices be foisted upon others in haste while submitting to the sinful glitter of the big screen.  W

And here was I, happily ensconced in the misguided belief that under the deleterious influence of The Sisterhood, your brain cells had but petrified only to learn, and sadly so, that they have been reprogrammed to bite the hand that once had been embraced, that once had led aforementioned grey matter to merriment, whether through sunning cycling or tempestuous tippling.

Alack and alas! Woe is me! Thou now speaketh with the forked and duplicitous tongue of a Puritan Lexusonian and all is lost, I fear. One chance, and one only, remains. Hie thee to Beau Soleil, forthwith, and reprogrammed be. Is it better to suffer the slings and arrows of the Shrewish Sisterhood or to ride, with carefree heart, along the Canal du Midi, tippling Syrah, Mourvedre and Malbec, nibbling on unpasteurized cheese and the odd Swedish earlobe? These questions you must answer for thine own self, O demon haunted, foully tormented Whirlygig! To exorcise or not to exorcise, that is the question! (Original attributed to Captain Barnacle: "To exercise or not to exercise, that is the question!")

P, Sorry we missed ya last night. Mike called it when his knee was bothering him. Interesting cards to say the least. A little subdued without the fomenter there. Mike seems to be on the mend. His main concern, he admitted, was that he likes his drugs a little too much. Ted offered to host at his house Tuesday. Does that work for you? Sarge cannot play. Better get in touch with Ted one way or 'other. I can ride anytime after 10:30 but need to return here by 1PM. Lemme know the when and where. W

Dear "Holier than I" Giggster! Please explain the difference between the "sinful glitter of the big screen" and a card table, littered with half empty hootch glasses and ashtrays with stinkin' stogies!

This message should give you time to figure out an oily, equivocal excuse since I suggest we meet at the Four Heartsa Breaka Terrazzo at 10:30am to make for SP. You can decide if we do an up-and-over of just a circuit on the road to PPH. I'm happy with either as I'll probably head out to UBC after you slink away, your cur's tail between your spokes. Cheers, Il Fomentare!

PS: We won't be back in time, from Bellingham, this coming Tuesday. I'm off to Peg City on Wednesday. I'll send out a message to group but perhaps you can think about including Ragin' unless Elaine or Polly might wish to play.

I will be at said Heartsick Terrace at 10:30 with lattes. Please advise Swedish Masseuse. W
Dear Collaborators,

It looks like we now have 3 wines with a vcr hovering over 5 - for some, enough to last at least until the July long weekend and for others a good beginning to the long weekend ahead.

      Milcampos 2009
Touraine Sauvignon Blanc 2011 (I located another TSB with similar cost and rating I should note)
      Errazuriz Max Reserva 2010 Carmenère

To help in accurate estimation of a value wine's value I have attached the VCR matrix. Collaboratively, John

Hi Ayn! I'm hoping to have this shipment sent to you: Good Evening Soda Rock Cellar Club Member,

Your March shipment is awaiting pickup here at the winery.  Come retrieve your delicious wines and of course plop yourself down at the bar for a tasting! As a reminder, any shipments not retrieved by Sunday June 9th, 2013, will be shipped at the member’s expense, unless arrangements are made for pickup on a later date. Thanks, and hope to see you here soon!

What I'd like to know is where best to direct winery shipper, to your home or office? Could you please provide both full addresses, (to make sure I have correct information), and indicate where shipment should go. As soon as you can would be much appreciated and then we might even have wine for graduation celebrations. Thanks and Cheers, Dad!

P, thanks for the ride today. I am in for the same tomorrow, the earlier the better. The weather forecast suggests some precipitation in the afternoon. If you can filch the cheat sheet for bridge from Sarge I would appreciate it. I can copy and return. On second thought, this can wait until after your trip. W

Hi Giorgio!

Yes, thanks for ride. I didn't do very much after we parted, just a few loops around Kits Point to give me 53.3 K over 2:49:28, AVG 18.9 KPH, MAX 51.2 KPH, but I was more than happy to stretch my legs after yesterday's haul.

Anyway, if you can make 9:00am at Heart Sick Terrace, I can bring out bridge book. We can do a similar ride to today, perhaps tailor it to weather, if needs be. I've scads of things to do before leaving tomorrow, as I assume do you, so won't be a marathon for me at least. I'll check my email in the morning and/or give you a buzz. Cheers, Patrizio!

PS: Are you still on for A Dram Come True on Friday, May 31st?

Hi Everyone,

A couple reminders about the reunion events: Tickets to the banquet will not be available after Monday midnight, May 20.  For those who haven’t got their tickets yet, they are still available at Viewer’s Choice on St. Anne’s Road and Canad Inn Polo Park until midnight Monday.  Canad Inn is open the long weekend so that gives you a bit more time.  No tickets to the banquet will be sold after that date or at the door.
The wine and cheese is close to a sell out.  To avoid disappointment, get your tickets prior to Monday midnight.
For those with special dietary requirements, please note that these must be requested also by Monday midnight.  Please e-mail your requirements to Sheila Boyd at sheila.boyd@accurateleasing.com. Have a great time at the reunion! Elaine Heinicke

Together, we made a difference.

Friends,

Tuesday was quite a night -- for us and for our Party. That we lost the election was surprising... but our hopes and our values endure.

We entered into this race in Vancouver - False Creek knowing that it wasn't going to be easy. Everyone told us that this was a Liberal stronghold, and many told us it just wasn't possible.

We were up against a former Mayor and a well funded machine, but we pushed ahead -- we built a great team and we did things that had never been done before in Canadian politics.

And together - with folks like you reading this message - we made a difference.
And if you look at the chart above, we REALLY made a difference!

This homegrown surge may not have been enough -- but it we did much more than run a "visibility" campaign.  A 50% bump in the NDP vote is  a pretty big statement and a damn good effort... and it will certainly go higher once the final ballots are tallied on the 27th.

To all of you who came out to support the campaign, who donated your time and your money, thank you. The community you built and the effort you gave was inspiring.  It certainly inspired me and will continue to do so in the days to come.

I hope to see you all again, soon.

Matt
